A restraining order is a court order issued upon application by one party that forbids another party from doing something. In most cases, restraining orders are issued to protect victims of abuse and/or domestic violence. Types of Restraining Orders

Once a restraining order has been filed, the respondent (person the order was issued against) must stop harassing, contacting, and/or abusing the petitioner (person who applied for the restraining order). If the respondent violates the terms of the restraining order, he/she may be subject to further legal action by California law enforcement.
